How to Stay Motivated to Workout

You have a busy work and home life. You know you should make the time to work out, but it can be hard to squeeze in between your job, family activities and the lure of the couch at the end of a long day. Don’t let lack of motivation derail your workouts! Come to Roark Gyms and see what a difference the right environment can make on your desire to get and stay in shape.

Roark Gyms offers a number of advantages that will assist you in achieving your fitness goals. We encourage you to find the right motivators and work toward satisfying them. One of our favorite things to tell our clients is that anyone can join our program — but they have to be willing to work hard. This serves as an excellent means to encourage people to get off the couch and head out the door.

Here are some other ways you can stay motivated along the fitness path.

Find Your Fitness Tribe

Surrounding yourself with people who love to work out and push themselves as much as you do can be rewarding. When you find “your people,” you will want to spend as much time with them as possible. Our approach to fitness includes fostering this camaraderie through special programs, seminars and benefits for a cause. Nothing pulls people together like working through a tough last set together. You provide one another with the much-needed encouragement to push harder.

Schedule a Regular Workout Time

You would never dream of flaking out on a commitment on your calendar, such as a work meeting or a doctor’s appointment. You should give your workout time the same respect. Schedule it at a consistent time so you get used to the routine. When you know you have to get up early before work to complete your workout, it becomes less of a choice and more a part of your day.

Talk to your fitness tribe, too, to schedule set classes when you will all meet up. You won’t want to let your new friends down.

Make Working Out Convenient

Eliminate any excuses that may stand in the way of your workout:

  • Prepare your clothes and gym bag the night before
  • Find a gym close to home or work
  • Visit the gym when you’d usually be doing something unproductive, like watching TV

When you do all these things, you increase your chances of making that after-work fitness class.

Set SMART Goals

Setting goals will keep you working toward something on the horizon and encourage you to return to the gym week after week. Every goal should be SMART, including these five elements:

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Attainable
  • Relevant
  • Time-bound
